Email delivery roadmap

When an email doesn’t arrive, first check
which delivery window it’s in

Repeatedly clicking resend usually only creates more delays. Check by delivery window to protect messages still in transit and quickly identify address or sender-side issues.

Four checkpoints

Start troubleshooting from the first second after submission

Most verification codes arrive quickly, but marketing systems, manual reviews, and greylisting can extend the wait. The steps below work for signup emails, login codes, and download links.

00:00

Check the address

Confirm that the form contains your current address, with the full domain and username and no trailing spaces.

00:30

Refresh once

Give the inbox time to complete its first check, and avoid submitting repeatedly on the destination site.

05:00

Request a resend

If the site allows it, resend once and note whether it says the domain isn’t supported.

10:00

Decide whether to switch inboxes

Only switch addresses after confirming that no email arrived, so you don’t lose the first message if it arrives late.

Identify the responsible stage

An email passes through at least three stages from button to inbox

The destination site first generates the email. The sending server then looks up the recipient domain and delivers it. Finally, MyTempBox receives the message and updates the list. When a site says “sent,” it only confirms that the first stage accepted the request—not that the third stage is complete.

  • The destination site may queue the request, rate-limit it, or never generate the email
  • The sending network may retry delivery after a temporary failure
  • The sender may reject disposable domains under its own policy
  • Your browser may be temporarily offline or still showing an outdated list

Check the sender first

Check the submitted address and the site’s message. If it clearly says disposable email isn’t accepted, repeatedly switching to similar addresses usually won’t help; use a long-term email address instead.

A subject appears in the list

Open the details

Click the full row to read the message. On mobile, it opens in a full-screen reader; go back to keep viewing the list without requesting another verification code.

Multiple verification codes

Use only the newest one

Most systems invalidate older codes. Choose the newest code by received time and stop clicking resend.

When not to change the address

Late doesn’t mean lost

Manual approvals, order notifications, and high-volume campaign emails can take more than ten minutes. As long as the destination site shows no error and the address is still valid, extending the current inbox is usually safer than switching addresses.

Important limits

Don’t rely on a temporary address for banking, payments, healthcare, work accounts, or any account you may need to recover later. Extending its validity also won’t turn a temporary inbox into a permanent identity.

Check the current inbox again

Refresh first, then use the delivery window to decide whether to resend, extend, or change the address.
